ADS Eastern Partner roundtable

This week ABM, together with our partner, ADS Eastern, have attended a Partner Round Table in Nairobi, Kenya. The meeting was organised to showcase the work of the various Anglican Development regions around Kenya, and to discuss challenges and opportunities.

The meeting was addressed by Kenyan Archbishop Dr Jackson Ole Sapit. Dr Sapit outlined the church’s commitment to social transformation in Kenya, and noted the work of his episcopal forebears in helping to achieve major national milestones. These include such milestones as multi-party democracy, the new 2010 Constitution, and the establishment of the church’s reputation as a defender of social justice.

The Archbishop particularly noted the importance of developing youth leadership, and the vital need to eliminate violence in communities and families. He also stressed the need to take care of the earth, referencing the commitment Kenya had made to the UN Sustainable Development Goals in its Vision 2030.

ADS Eastern Executive Director, Esther Musili (pictured above), gave the presentation on the Social, Economic and Political Context of Kenya. Among many challenges, she noted that there was good news regarding the governance devolution to the county-level. This had reportedly led to greatly strengthened accountability of government, particularly at local level.

ABM is proud to partner with Anglican Development Services (ADS) Eastern in its Agricultural Livelihoods Improvement Program, as it takes steps to address the challenges posed by the worsening drought in the region.
