A Bequest from the late June B. Ashton of Toronto NSW

A bequest has come to ABM for its general work from the estate of the late June Ashton of Toronto NSW. June actively supported ABM for more than thirty years. Records show that she attended a dinner in 1992 to commemorate the centenary of the Anglican mission in Papua New Guinea.  

Following her retirement, she moved from Sydney (where she had worshipped at St Peter’s Cremorne) to Toronto on the Central Coast. June had been Sacristan at St Peter’s for many years and one of her last acts of generosity was to give a framed crochet work of the Lord’s Prayer to the parish, a deeply valued item that had been crafted by her forebears.

June was a professed Sister of the Community of St Clare at Stroud. She joined the order as Sister June in 1977, inspired by what she had read about its Sister-in-Charge, Angela Solling, and the mud brick monastery the sisters built on the outskirts of Stroud with assistance from the local community and well beyond. June was professed in October, 1980, but had to leave the following year because of increasing impairment to her vision.

A friend from St Peter’s parish knew June as a truly lovely lady who faced life with the challenges of increasingly diminished eyesight. It is clear that she could see the real and the enduring things, and ABM gives thanks to God for her generosity and her ‘Gift in Will’.
