A Big Thank You For Stamp Donations

October 29, 2015

Yesterday at the monthly Sydney Auxiliary meeting, Sr Rosamund Duncan was honoured for her tireless service to ABM in helping with our stamp donations which started 20 years ago! She has been coming to the Sydney office, voluntarily sorting out stamps and taking them to the Sydney Auction houses where they are sold to raise money for ABM’s projects.

Executive Officer Edwin Porter thanked Sr Rosamund on behalf of ABM and she was presented with a ‘Thank You’ card, a beautiful bouquet of flowers and chocolates as a small token of appreciation for all her hard work.

Robert Kennedy of Kennedy Stamps Pty Ltd was also visiting yesterday and had the opportunity to meet staff and Auxiliary members.  Much of ABM’s used stamps have found their way to Kennedy Stamps over the years generating money to support ABM’s project work. The business has been in existence since 1960 with Robert purchasing the company in 1975 and expanding its operations.

Just recently, Sydney Auxiliary President, Tricia Howard advised that from the period of 2010-2015 a total sum of $38,500 had been raised as a direct result of stamps!

For many, many years ABM has been accepting used postage stamps as part of our fund raising. Today this practice continues with our loyal supporters from the different dioceses around Australia sending us stamps on a regular basis. This represents millions of stamps and many, many hours of effort from a large number of Friends of ABM, who collect, cut, sort and sell.

We also sometimes receive whole collections from stamp collectors and some of these collections prove to be very valuable when sold – a generous gift to ABM!

The stamps are trimmed (leaving about 1cm of envelope on each side) and sold to stamp dealers to be used in ‘mission mixture packs’. ABM would like to say A BIG THANK YOU to all our collectors and helpers for this tremendous effort and to encourage you all to keep collecting used stamps as the money raised goes towards our work in mission.
