New Archbishop elected for Perth Diocese

August 31, 2017

It has been announced that The Right Reverend Kay Goldsworthy AO, currently Bishop of Gippsland, has been elected the eighth Archbishop of Perth. She is the first woman to be elected to the role of Archbishop in Australia.

This is yet another milestone for Bishop Kay, having being one of the first women ordained to the priesthood in 1992, and consecrated in 2008 as the first female Bishop in The Anglican Church of Australia by Archbishop Roger Herft. She was elected Bishop of Gippsland in 2014.

The Right Revd Kate Wilmot, Administrator of the Anglican Diocese of Perth, stated that:

“The Archbishop-elect has fulfilled her ministry for more than three decades in three Australian Dioceses and brings a breadth and depth of wisdom and an ability to collaborate with diverse members of the Church community.

“Bishop Kay is well known in Perth and has displayed excellent leadership and hospitality across the Perth community. The Diocese is very much looking forward to welcoming Bishop Kay and her husband Jeri James.”

The installation will take place in St George’s Cathedral, Perth, on Saturday 10 February 2018.

ABM’s Board and staff warmly congratulate Bishop Kay on her appointment as Archbishop-elect of Perth.
