Update on Relief Efforts in the Solomon Islands

April 23, 2014

The Anglican Church of Melanesia’s General Secretary Dr Abraham Hauriasi has just sent a brief update on the emergency relief efforts in the Solomon Islands.

Over the Easter weekend, they managed to distribute food supplies to the 22 evacuation centres in Honiara and also to the Church’s institutions which include schools and religious orders.

Dr Abraham said, “We used the Church vessel, the Southern Cross, to return Selwyn College students to school yesterday because of difficulties with accessibility of road transport. The boat also carried fuel supplies for the school as well as Bishop Patteson Theological College.”

We will continue to post more updates as we receive them from the Solomon Islands. Thank you to those who have given generously to help the flood victims. Please continue to keep them all in your prayers.
