June 2014

This year, St John’s Grammar School in South Australia raised a total of $1380.62 in support of ABM’s Zambian Health Clinic Equipping project. Sally Letcher, the Head of the winning House, wrote about the school’s fundraising challenge:

St John’s Grammar School has long enjoyed a successful and competitive House Activities program which gives students the opportunity to develop a sense of belonging through various fun, sporting and academic pursuits. As the Senior School Head of Moffatt House, I was particularly excited when Father Steve Daughtry introduced a new challenge this year, the Chaplain’s Cup. This initiative was one which not only builds on positive House rivalry but also supports the importance of service we try to instil in our students.

Father Steve challenged us as a House group to try to raise funds for the Anglican Board of Mission-Australia to support the Zambian Health Clinics. It was heart-warming to see Moffatt students and staff working together washing car windows, selling chocolates and drinks and running an Easter raffle to support this cause.

As a House we raised over $500 and while we were excited to win the inaugural Chaplain’s Cup, the greatest ‘win’ was having another opportunity to work together as a House to support others and develop an understanding of a wider human community beyond that which is seen and known to our students.
