The ABM Christmas Tree at St John’s Taree

October 2019

We share this great story from Don and Rosemary Mortimer, long-time supporters and recipients of the ABM Coaldrake Award, which will hopefully inspire others and their parishes leading up to Christmas.

St John’s Church Taree had a Christmas Tree Festival, known locally as “The Blue Cross Festival of Trees” from 14 December to 21 December 2018.

The Festival was opened, and the trees were blessed by our Regional Bishop Charlie Murry.

We had 20 entries from both parishioners and community groups which we thought a good effort for a first time.

Our Parish is going to have another festival this year commencing on 6 December 2019 and culminating on 15 December when we celebrate the traditional Service of Lessons and Carols.

We felt it was a good chance to promote ABM and its work, hence the globe of the world on top. We tried to light up the globe and show the dioceses where ABM is working to promote the Gospel. We were fortunate to be able to use some PNG, Fijian and Aboriginal artefacts to make up the tree.

We now need ideas for this year, and for $10 you too can enter a tree!
