The Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) have recently held a training workshop with their Youth and Sunday school leaders, focusing on environmental conservation. The training was highly successful, with participants appreciating the discussions on contemporary issues of global warming and climate change.  Here is a list of the topics covered during this time;

1)    Types of environmental conservation.

2)    Active roles the young people can play in protecting and improving the environment.

3)    Going green in the house, with transport, with recycling and re-using.

4)    Causes of climate change and effects of climate.

5)    Role of the youth/Sunday school in climate change.

6)    Ways youths/Sunday school can conserve and save environment

The leaders pledged to help reduce wastage by paying attention to minor details in their own daily lives, as well as spreading the message to the youth and children whom they serve.

As a result of the training, several environmental conservation activities were organized amongst local schools administered by the Anglican Church of Kenya.

The first of these events was a tree planting exercise by the ACK Mukengesya Secondary school. Over six hundred trees were planted in their school compound during this time!

It made some of the teachers pretty happy…

 

Due to the success of this event, ACK St. Marks Kavuthu Primary school organized a similar tree planting activity in their school compound.

Youth in the Athi River Archdeaconry in Molongo also organised themselves to collect litter along a busy road, sending a powerful message to onlookers.

 

And in the spirit of environmental protection and conservation, the Rt. Rev. Joseph K. Mutungi also launched a tree planting event at ACK St. Peter’s Katelembo church, in collaboration with National Government of Kenya.
