Update on the Bishop’s Award Program

Working together at the training.
One of the training sessions at Kormilda College.

Under the Bishop’s Award Program run by the Anglican Diocese of the Northern Territory (NT) and assisted by a cooperative of Christian mission organisations, a week of Church Leader Training was conducted at Kormilda College, Berrimah, NT in September 2013.

It represented an example of the developing ministries emerging in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities around the nation.

The training had 35 participants and 12 trainers.

Each day started with Holy Communion and the training covered topics including Baptism and Symbols; Encouraging Lay Ministry; Event Planning and Organising; Planning for Christmas; Setting up for a Funeral; Children’s Ministry; Safe Ministry; Praying with the Sick; and Money Matters.

It was a great week and the Aboriginal people went back to their communities better equipped to serve in their ministries.

This year, another week-long training workshop is scheduled for the end of September in the town of Katherine, 320 kilometres southeast of Darwin.

Thank you to all ABM supporters who have made this possible.
