Securing the Future of the Church in PNG

There is an urgent need for strong leadership throughout the parishes of the Anglican Church of Papua New Guinea. Building on ABM’s previous work in PNG and support of Newton College, this is a holistic project aiming to improve learning and living conditions.

Funding will contribute to Curriculum Development replacing the 1980’s curriculum currently in use, teacher development and site maintenance. Supplies like books, water tanks and Master’s Degrees for Lecturers are all required.

“Newton College is a beautiful place with friendships
among the students, but it needs new library books,
a better water supply – 24 hour water supply. We also
need more qualified lecturers and computers the
students can use.”

“Newton College is located on a large site with creeks
and forests that needs developing.

The houses need a lot of maintenance. The water
supply, plumbing, showers and toilets all need fixing.
Also electricity with lines and poles. We need a new
curriculum, more trained staff and the upgrading of the
library.”

PROJECT UPDATE

August 2020 – Fr Leki Kambari was initially surprised when his parish, located at the foot of Mount Lamington in Papua New Guinea’s Oro Province, recommended him for theological training at Newton College. But now, four years later, he has completed his training, been ordained a deacon, and is back serving his parish, along with his wife, Mother Delwyn. Both learned invaluable skills, knowledge, and prayer habits to sustain them for their work in furthering the gospel of Christ amongst the people of Sasembata. Read more.

June 2018 – Archbishop Jeffrey Driver has written a newsletter called ‘Newton News’ which gives a detailed update on what is happening at Newton College. Download the .pdf document
