Maryborough Auxiliary: Celebrating 100 years

June 2018

The ABM Maryborough Auxiliary in the Diocese of Brisbane recently celebrated their Centenary on 10th June at St Paul’s Anglican Church.

About 70 people gathered to share in the special occasion where the Rev John Deane, ABM’s Executive Director, was guest speaker. He spoke at the commemoration service, reminding those present that we are all part of the same vine, and our individual efforts are possible because we belong to God’s vine.

The celebrations were also attended by Mrs Fiona Richardson (National Auxiliary Secretary), the Rev Ken Spreadborough (Chair of the ABM Brisbane Diocesan Committee) and Mrs Lynette Keyes (President of the ABM Brisbane Auxiliary).

During the event, Mrs Jill Beardmore (pictured right) was presented with a Certificate of Appreciation by Fr John in recognition of her valuable contribution and support of ABM over the past thirty years.

She had made a special cake for the occasion and was also part of a group who created a queen sized quilt which was raffled on the day and raised $823 for ABM’s General Community Development Fund. This was in addition to other funds raised from the stall sales and donations. (View article about the quilt here.)

The Maryborough Auxiliary has a long history dating back to 1918 with its members actively fundraising throughout the years selling preserves, home-baked goods, patchwork quilts and tablecloths, and lots of other craft items. There were also flower stalls and clothing sales along with many fundraising events.

It is evident that a strong sense of fellowship has grown out of this group effort of working together to support mission, and praying for and learning about the work of ABM.

ABM warmly congratulates the Maryborough Auxiliary on reaching such a significant milestone and we give thanks and praise for the support and efforts of members past and present.
